I am glad that I won’t have to turn in my “man card” since I own all of the tools on the list, some of them multiple times. A claw hammer is good, but you also need a ball peen hammer, a finishing hammer and a framing hammer, etc. As for saws, always make sure to us the right one for the material you are going to cut.

I am glad that i wasn’t the only one to notice that while the advice was to buy quality, the illustrations in many cases looked like cheap junk.

And for the crosscut saw nothing–and I do mean nothing–beats the Stanley Short-cut. Fits IN your toolbox, and will go through a 2 x 4 faster than getting out your circular saw and plugging it in (less mess too). I tried one once and bought my own the next day.

Oh, I loved the link to essential tools. I agree with his statement about purchasing good quality, but the pictures he showed were not good quality. If you can buy something made in America, do it. The quality is better and the steel is better. But very few things are any more. Most of it is made in China. Try not to buy anything made there. The metal is cheap and will not last. You can usually also depend on Germany and Switzerland for quality products.

But my main reason for the comment is to add a few tools, and I promise a few. There are two or three things that I use all the time at home, and would need to be on that list. The list is a bit off because it mixes automotive and home tools. You really need two lists for them.

But if you are working around home, you have to have these things.

1. A small pry bar/scraper (like the Hyde Tools 9-1/2 In. Length Pry Bar at home depot)
2. Side cutting pliers.
3. End Cutting pliers

These are essential because if you are working on nails or flooring in your house, a claw hammer will not cut it. You will not be able to get under stuff or pull nails out. You will need all three of the above. When I do work, all three of these go with me. It helps to overcome part of the curse!
