Kindle Deal: Everlasting Dominion: A Theology of the Old Testament by Eugene Merrill. $2.99.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Mindy Belz – Tortured Journey. Mindy is one of the best evangelical reporters out there, and she’s been on the front lines in Iraq and Syria, Greece and Turkey, covering the refugee and migrant crisis. Sobering and hope-filled.

2. The New York Times Magazine – Inside Facebook’s (Totally Insane, Unintentionally Gigantic, Hyperpartisan) Political-Media Machine. How a strange new class of media outlet has arisen to take over our news feeds.

3. Vinson Cunningham – Making a Home for Black HistoryFascinating profile in The New Yorker on the history, vision, and challenges of the new museum opening on the National Mall this month.

4. John Inazu reviews Mary Eberstadt’s new book on religious freedom and says, “We Need Religious Freedom Reinforcements.” Those who bear the scars of “the old civil rights” are far better positioned to resist rhetorical challenges from advocates of “the new civil rights.” But instead of recognizing their need for black Christians, white religious traditionalists have largely ignored them, and many remain indifferent to the challenges of personal and structural racism that persist in this country.

5. Tish Harrison Warren – I Overlooked the Rural Poor. Then Trump Came Along. This election has urban evangelicals paying more attention to the plight of small-town America.

6. Tim Stanley – We Haven’t Seen the Last of the Burkini Bans. Liberalism is not very liberal towards religious conservatives.

7. America’s Top Criterion for Finding a New ChurchProtestants say ‘preaching’ and Catholics say ‘location.’ More interesting details are in this survey.
